Palingénésie ou prototype pour un arbre, est une vidéo qui a été réalisé lors d’une résidence avec le Lycée Professionnel Agricole Gilbert Martin jumelé avec le Centre Photographique de Rouen – Cette vidéo est à la fois une oeuvre et une trace d’une performance. Trace, car cette aventure a été éphémère, discrète, et seules des images du ciel (drône) ont pu révéler l’impact poétique de l’intervention. Oeuvre, la réalisation de la vidéo se singularise de la performance pour devenir une oeuvre à part entière. Un panorama autour de la visibilité des racines, des nombreuses coupes à blancs, de la disparition d’une «forêt», sa réapparition, comme d’un «labeur» surréaliste voué lui aussi à disparaitre.

C’est une expédition qui met à jour l’invisible. L’adage nous dit que le réseau racinien d’un arbre, est le miroir de la houppe de ce même arbre. Autrement dit, ce réseau enfoui de racines, cette image de symétrie, laisse imaginer l’invisible. Les élèves de Terminal du lycée agricole Gilbert Martin au Neubourg (Normandie) sont partis en immersion dans la forêt de Beaumont-le-Roger. Cette parcelle a subi une coupe à blanc; un vaste champ la remplace à présent. Sur un ensemble de neuf souches coupées, a été déterrée une partie des réseaux raciniens de la parcelle. Une performance poétique, contributive et collective. En révélant partiellement les racines, la houppe disparue des arbres coupés, a été symboliquement perceptible, faisant l’exercice ici de mémoire. Un enjeu titanesque sans rendement spécifique. À l’aide d’outils de terrain comme des pioches, les souches ont été mises à nu, également creusées avec délicatesse grâce à des pinceaux et racloirs, outils de fouilles archéologiques exhumant la mémoire. La visibilisation des réseaux de racines témoigne combien la vie est présente et se connecte. Pourtant, cette performance a souligné aussi l’absence, liant la disparition des houppes et troncs des arbres, au profit des souches laissées sur la parcelle.

Palingénésie ou prototype pour un arbre, is a video that was made during a residency with the Lycée Professionnel Agricole Gilbert Martin twinned with the Centre Photographique de Rouen – This video is both a work and a trace of a performance. Trace, because this adventure was ephemeral, discreet, and only images from the sky (drone) could reveal the poetic impact of the intervention. Work, because the making of the video stands out from the performance to become a work in its own right. A panorama around the visibility of the roots, the numerous clear cuts, the disappearance of a « forest », its reappearance, as a surrealist « work » also doomed to disappear.

It is an expedition that brings to light the invisible. The adage tells us that the root network of a tree is the mirror of the tassel of that same tree. In other words, this buried network of roots, this image of symmetry, lets us imagine the invisible. Terminal students at the Gilbert Martin agricultural high school in Neubourg (Normandy) went on an immersion trip to the Beaumont-le-Roger forest. This parcel of forest land, has been clear-cut ; a vast field now replaces it. Out of a set of nine cut stumps, a part of the root system of the plot was unearthed. A poetic, contributive and collective performance. By partially revealing the roots, the vanished tussock of the cut trees was symbolically perceptible, making the exercise here of memory. A titanic challenge with no specific output. With the help of field tools such as pickaxes, the stumps were exposed, also delicately dug up with brushes and scrapers, tools of archaeological excavation exhuming memory. The visibilisation of the root networks testifies to the presence and connection of life. However, this performance also highlighted the absence, linking the disappearance of the tussocks and trunks of the trees to the stumps left on the plot.
